| This page is a collection of links to my own pages in the "Pine Tree Web" and to related links on Scouting. The focus is on my particular interests in Scouting which include: the life and times of the Founder, Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell, the heritage, history and traditions of Scouting, leadership development, and International Scouting, with a particular emphasis on Scouting in Eastern Europe and Russia. My pages have been collected under the title of the "Pine Tree Web" to tie several diverse subjects together and to recognize the author's links to a Scouting endeavor, Pine Tree Camp, that has special meaning in his own Scouting experience.

About Pine Tree CampThis page is dedicated to the Scouts of Pine Tree Camp, the Junior Leader Training Conference of the Viking Council in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1988-2004. Beginning in 1989, Pine Tree served as the proving grounds for redesign of the Junior Leader Training Conference, a week-long leadership development program sponsored by local Councils for the top youth leaders of Scout troops. In addition to changes in program and Scoutcraft activities, a renewed emphasis on the values of Scouting was a key element. These efforts led to the revision of the Junior Leader Training Conference Staff Guide in 1993 and the incorporation of new elements in the leadership training programs of the BSA. The emphasis on Scouting as a special place (a "safe haven"), and the use of the reflection process were two of the most significant enhancements. In 2005, Viking Council in Minneapolis and Indianhead Council in St. Paul were merged into the Northern Star Council. The youth leadership programs of the two Councils were merged together to form a new program, Grey Wolf. The Grey Wolf program is based on the new National program, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Grey Wolf now runs five sessions each summer including close to 300 Scouts plus an exceptionally trained youth staff in a program that continues with a focus on a "special place" and of Scouting's values as the foundation of leadership and Scouting. More information on the focus on values, on the safe haven in Scouting, and on the process of reflection, will be found at my web pages titled "Scouting is a Game with a Purpose". Return to WWW Links
